Since 2011, the Kia Optima has done well for Kia. This summer, the Optima will be replaced by the K5, Kia’s newest addition. Kia is expecting to again pave a new path forward. Read on to learn more about the options, features, and specs of the K5 mid-size sedan.

Smart Safety and Technology

Kia has always prided itself in providing safety in its vehicles. The K5 is no different. Outfitted with Kia Drive Wise, it offers a suite of safety features that you know from the Optima (forward collision-avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, blind spot warning, etc.) and new ones like junction turning collision assist.

The K5 is also smarter than the Optima with new technology and convenience features such as:

  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Remote start and climate with Smart Key
  • Up to 5 USB ports
  • Wireless smartphone charging with a drop-in design
  • Voice recognition software for voice commands
  • Up to 10.25 touchscreen system
  • Premium Bose 12 speaker sound system
  • Unique “Sound of Nature” ambient system with 6 themes

Power and Capability in the K5

The Kia K5’s performance will be an upgrade than that of the Kia Optima. Multiple powertrain options will be available including turbocharged options and a new eight-speed “wet” dual clutch transmission. Add to this available AWD for improved traction and control, and your driving experience is elevated to a whole new level. The K5’s widest in class wide-track suspension coupled with light-weight materials provide improved handling and steering. The GT trim’s 2.5L turbo engine even offers best-in-class 311 lb.-ft. torque. While the Optima was a comfortable ride, the K5 gives you an adrenaline option when you want it.

Trims for All Your Needs

The Kia K5 will come in LX, LXS, GT-Line, EX, and this fall, the GT. The price tag on the K5 is expected to be very reasonable with the base model LX starting at $24,445, the GT-Line priced around $28,000, and the fully loaded EX coming in at $32,355. Even the GT stays under $36,000 with all available options. The K5 is competitively priced, and there’s a trim option available for any budget.
